THE LIGHT BEHIND THE LENS
Dingleburn Station, Autumn 2024
It was when I mentioned I was off to Dingleburn Station that Glen raised his eyebrows, lowered his chin and warned, "Now that is a white knuckled ride". This from the man who'd just driven us over the country's highest public access road - in total darkness no less - to watch the sunrise from the eastern side of The Remarkables. Glen had a proven tolerance for heights and snaking, loose gravel, barrier free roads.
A few days later, the legend didn't disappoint. The only vantage point to truly appreciate the greywacke sliding contours of the Dingleburn road, was from afar - when you're on it, you're trying to think of anything but. I was in good hands however, in an experienced (read: dented, dirty and determined) Land Rover with one Brigitte Mead at the wheel.
